the octatrack is an amazing controller for the modular and has really opened up some new doors in terms of playing live. it's useful for any type of music! you could use it to control 4 channels of monosynth OR you could use it to send 8 gates, 4 1v/octave sequences, and 8 MIDI envelopes.

Sample & Hold LFO’s are great to give variations on each trigger. The settings here give a different filter frequency for each trig. You could also play a different mode/inversion at random putting an LFO on the slice position (although there’s a bug in the Octatrack that clicks sometimes when choosing sample slices with scenes or LFOs).

• ON will, when the Octatrack MKII MIDI mode is activated, route MIDI CC messages straight to the MIDI output port. When MIDI mode is enabled and LIVE RECORDING mode is active, specified CCs in the CTRL 1 and CTRL 2 SETUP pages can also be recorded by the sequencer. Record samples in real time via any of the Octatrack’s varied source options. Connect directly to the four inputs, resample an internal track, or pull on the main and cue channels.

Page 26: Recording A Pattern Using Live Recording QUICK START RECORDING A PATTERN USING LIVE RECORDING The LIVE RECORDING mode allows you to record note trigs and parameter changes while the sequencer is running. Limitation is liberation. The Octatrack is a versatile, complex instrument. My best results with it happen when I've decided what to use it for in beforehand. Elektron Octatrack CUE fundamentals and how I'd like to see 'studio mode' features broken out and enabled separately.to support this channel and gain access So basically, I can do it, but would have to divide the RAM up between recording the live instrumentation (using a flex machine) and recording the overall performance (I guess also through a flex). So if that’s one instrument + the overall performance, 5 mins of recording time approx available in the RAM, divided by 2 so about 2.5 minutes limitation for the performance length.

Each step can trigger chords of up to four notes, and there's even a built‑in arpeggiator. In Live Record mode, you can play notes via an external MIDI keyboard and record incoming CC info. As a simple step‑time MIDI looper, this works splendidly! The Octatrack's MIDI spec isn't too shabby either.

It undoubtedly changed the way gear setups look like and gave artists the power to perform live in the truest sense of the word. Now we give you Octatrack MKII. Sharper, better, more robust.

Looping, via Pickup Machines, can also be controlled via a foot pedal. The inputs can be set up with noise gates and delay compensation. Once recorded, samples can be tweaked using the Octatrack’s flexible audio editor, which can be used to slice, trim and manipute recorded clips.

I’d like to enter into live recording mode using some form of footswitch. I don’t see live recording mode noted in the midi spec. Does anyone know if this is somehow possible?

I don’t see live recording mode noted in the midi spec. Does anyone know if this is somehow possible? I’m playing a Nord Drum and would love to be able to record midi loops live without having to reach over and press rec + play… select your midi-track… press record+play simultanious and do your thing. for the chromatic playing of your sample-tracks. you need to play on the last 2 octaves of your keyboard.
